What is Vepa?
Vepa is a Dutch family business committed to the sustainable and local production of office furniture. Founded in 1951, Vepa operates a 60,000m² factory in the Netherlands where all products are manufactured entirely in-house. With strong environmental values, Vepa is on a mission to become a fully waste-free company. From office chairs and tables to storage pedestals and accessories, Vepa’s elaborate designs focus on circular production and innovative reuse. They source materials in remarkable ways – for example, using agricultural waste from hemp crops grown in the Netherlands. These fibres are transformed into durable seat shells using a plant-based resin developed by Plantics.
Recyclable, Plant-Based Chair
Unlike traditional plastics or composites, this chair contains no fossil-based ingredients and is fully recyclable at the end of its life. These plant-based chairs are made entirely from Dutch-grown hemp fibres and a bio-resin derived from plants, creating a durable yet biodegradable material. Thanks to its sustainable craftsmanship, these Vepa Hemp Fine Chairs can be shredded and remoulded into a new chair without the need for added chemicals or new raw materials, leading to a resource-saving, circular economy.Sustainable & Stackable for Space-Saving Storage
Designed with both sustainability and practicality, the Hemp Fine Chair features a strong, minimalist steel frame that’s durable enough for everyday use and versatile enough for many kinds of settings. Customise to your needs; from armrests and felt glides to FSC®-certified upholstered seat pads, there’s a configuration to suit every space. The chairs are stackable for efficient storage – up to 5 high with seat pads and 4 without – making them perfect for offices, meeting rooms, cafeterias, and waiting areas where flexible layouts are necessary.- Stack up to 4 chairs without a seat pad, or 5 with.

Hemp is a plant that grows without artificial fertilizer or pesticides and doesnt require much water. Typically grown in the Netherlands. Hemp is super strong and absorbs co2 meaning more co2 is absorbed than emitted when producing the chair.
How is a chair made from Hemp?
Hemp is farmed to make bales where the factory puts it in a machine to separate the fibre from the wood. Raw fibre is combed to get layers. Layers are then pressed together to get rolls of mat. With a binding agent which is recyclable and biodegradable resin (organic glue) chairs are placed in a mould and the resin binds the hemp mat which becomes rock-hard.
What is FSC®-certified?
FSC®-certified means that the wood used in a product comes from responsibly managed forests that meet the standards of the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC). This certification ensures the following: sustainable forest management, protection of biodiversity and ecosystems, fair treatment and rights of workers and local communities.
What does BS 5852 mean?
BS 5852 is a British Standard highlighting fire resistance requirements for upholstered furniture fillings, such as foam. It sets out tests to assess how well these materials withstand ignition and how quickly flames spread. The standard ensures that the filling will not easily catch fire or burn quickly in the event of a fire.
