‘Composite timber’, ‘composite lumber’, ‘structural timber composites” or simply ‘composite’ refers to wood-based materials or components.  This category of material includes a variety of laminates:

  • glued laminated timber (“glulam”)
  • laminated veneer lumber (LVL)
  • parallel strand lumber (PSL)
  • laminated strand lumber (LSL)

Composite can also be a mixture of wood fibre, plastic and a binding agent combined to look like wood. These wood-plastic composites form a material that is denser, stronger, and heavier than wood alone.  It is ideal for a variety of uses, including furniture and building interior design structures or surfaces.
