Many home offices tend to be quite small because there are not many of us which are blessed with large houses so you probably will only have a small amount of space to start your business.
For this very same reason, you will probably be loathe to crowd your office with office furniture. Essential office furniture, of course, includes your office desk, a good quality office chair, and maybe a filing cabinet and/or bookcase.
A word about decorating - just because you are decorating your home office in a practical way doesnt mean you need to make it dull. Once you have done the arrangement of your office furniture in a space efficient way you could brighten your office walls with some pictures. Having some of your home office decorated to reflect your company’s business will make you feel so much more positive about your office work and gives a very professional impression to visitors.
Always consider light colours and pale office furniture, particularly a pale office desk and / or computer desk (as these will likely be your biggest office furniture items) will give the impression of a more spacious home office. Pale office furniture will also reflect the light which is just perfect for small spaces.
