A Dedicated Space:
You need to at least have a dedicated space from which to work which no one else should use. Why? If you use your work space for anything other than work, then you will get distracted quickly by anything you leave there.
Other people within the family might become frustrated by not being able to use the space, and you might find that you don’t have anywhere to put important pieces of paper you require, which generally means that they get lost.
The Art of the Home Office:
Dedicating an entire room to your work sanctuary is the best way to go. You should not have too much trouble converting a small bedroom; most bedrooms are surprisingly large once you take the bed out.
Your essentials for your home office are an office desk, office chair, computer and computer desk, filing cabinet and phone/fax. If you do not have spare office furniture then you can buy them for a great discounted price online - do not spend more than you need to on office furniture and equipment, at least at the beginning.
Make sure you have everything in your dedicated room that you will need for running your business, and that your equipment and office furniture is of a good enough quality that you will be able to use it for long periods of time without it giving you repetitive strain. If you are planning to do a lot of phoning, it may be an idea to buy a headset. Finally, it’s also worth spending a little extra on office that chair, it is likely you will be spending long periods of time sat in the chair so you should look for a comfortable ergonomic office chair.
