Well planned offices at home

From the beginning of your home office project you need to think about the design and functionality of your home office.  Will you be facing the door or window?  Are there power points for your laptop and PC? Do you have somewhere to put your PC?  Is this going to be a quiet corner?  Will there be enough light? You need to try and get your office right from the beginning.  Once you have set it up it would be a nightmare of a job to change everything around again after 2 weeks.

Before you begin planning this large project ask yourself these questions first:
  • Are you comfortable in your office chair if your back is to the door?
  • Do you want to be looking out of the window or have the back of your office desk to it?
  • If your back is to the window and you are looking at a computer monitor all day long does the changing daylight affect your eyes?
  • Is there room near your office desk for a portable heater in the winter and maybe an air conditioning unit in the summer months?
  • How big should your office desk space be?
  • What is the best design of office chair that you find most comfortable to work in?
  • Can you reach all your power and telephone points where you have positioned your office desk?
  • Are there enough shelves and filing cabinets for your paperwork?
  • Is your office suitably separate from the rest of your home?
Getting your office right from the beginning and planning it thoroughly means enjoying the comfort and relaxation to get the most out of your working day in the future.
