Starting your own company

There are more people than ever before who have found the initiative and drive to set up their business from home.

Many of the more successful entrepreneurs have found that saving money wherever possible is a major factor in achieving success in business.  Not least there are certain tax saving opportunities which should be taken advantage of because they are there to support you and you are entitled to them.  So making sure you have an accountant or you have enough knowledge to understand tax laws governing profits and write-offs.   For example, when purchasing business equipment and office furniture some of this can be offset against tax for deductions.

Promoting your business goes without saying, this is the key to your success, if you are a local company who would probably like to have business relationships with surrounding firms, then business cards should be carried with you at all times.  It would also be wise to make sure there is a business card on all the counters or office desks of local businesses in your community.

Adding ‘up selling’ information e.g. discounts to the bottom of your invoices is a great way to encourage repeat sales from your customer, you can pick a range or clear old stock or promote a service that is slow for you, it takes 2 minutes and most invoices are emailed these days so 2 minutes in your office chair writing a couple of paragraphs could mean heaps of sales in the long run.

You can’t only promote your company from your office chair of course (especially if you want to make local business contacts), so maybe involving yourself in charity events in the area would be good for your profile and the profile of your business.
