Office Ventilation

Indoor air quality at individual workstations in office buildings and around offices desks can affect airflow patterns.  The most important thing to ensure is that an office is well ventilated with the right temperature control to ensure workers are comfortable.

It is more common to see computer desks and computers in the workplace now and when many computers are in a close space this can start to affect the overall office temperature which is particularly uncomfortable in summer months.

The other factors that affect ventilation are office furniture design and the layout of workstations.  The range of office furniture configurations and parameters have been studied in relation to their affects on poor ventilation and the following makes a difference; presence of office furniture, partition heights and gaps, location of the air supply from office desks, office furniture in close proximity to other office furniture.

In short, when you are designing the layout of your office you must not have office desks and chairs too close to each other, partitions should not be too high or workers will start to sweat, your ventilation system needs to be cleaned regularly.  Lastly, make sure that photocopiers, faxes, printers are not too close to workers office chairs or desks because the air flow will be affected and the temperature will be higher than other parts of the office
