Office chairs and posture

Sitting in the same position for a long time can induce feelings of tiredness not to mention straining your neck, wrists and back.
Choosing the right office desk and the right office chair are key to achieving the right body positioning to avoid unnecessary strain.

Here are some tips on the best way to seat yourself and what you should be looking for from your office furniture.

The contour on the back of your office chair should fit easily with the contour of your back.

You office chair should have support at the back to stop you from slouching and it is better to choose a taller back than a short one.
Always sit back into your office chair so it supports your spine properly.

Look for an office chair with foam padding on the back and seat.

Keep your legs parallel to the ground, if you have short legs always use a foot stool.  A reclining office chair will allow you to change positions regularly without compromising the much needed support of your back.

Ensure you computer monitor is placed in the correct position on your office desk so that your head and neck are upright and you look straight ahead of yourself.

Do not leave your computer monitor to the left or right on your office desk, turning left and right constantly will induce neck strain.
Keep your keyboard low down so you do not constantly strain your shoulders by reaching too high up.

The mouse should be kept to the right or left on your office desk (depending upon you being right or left handed), and your wrist needs to be in a straight and relaxed position.
