There are a number of ways to help avoid distractions in your home office or your place of work regardless of what those distractions maybe.  If you have enough will power you can achieve your goal of concentrating.

Distractions in the Work Place
If it is possible move any office furniture items off or away from your office desk.  It’s not just the noise but the heat they omit in summer can be very uncomfortable.

Use any partitions you are allowed to use between yourself and your co-worker’s office desks and discuss it with anyone who should be informed as to the reasons why.

Poor ventilation, lighting and air conditioning issues will need to be informed to the right people, you will probably find that asking some of your co-workers what they think, it will be the same as you, so inform the right people in numbers.

Try and situate your office desk in an area that won’t mean people are constantly walking past you or using your desk as an office chair.
Even if you prefer to eat your lunch at your office desk, try to stand up and walk around to relieve the frustrations you may not realize you are feeling which affect your motivation and temperament.

Distractions in the Home Office
If distractions are unavoidable run to the nearest library or a coffee shop, sometimes this is the speediest solution (sometimes these distractions can be your Nintendo Wii).

If you cannot escape and your office items are all in your home then clearly set rules around your valuable concentration time with your family as professionally and seriously as you can and adopt your own will power whether it be with the family or with your favourite computer game.

If you want to avoid both the above situations try and find space in a garage or office shed.

If you are really lucky you will have already got your own home office area and your own office furniture items so some of your distractions will have already been avoided by shutting and locking the door!
