Dress codes may be deemed to be introduced to the work place in an attempt to stifle anyone’s personality or individuality but they are necessary for several reasons including: a work focused atmosphere is created, for a corporate image, to make people feel part of a team, and sometimes for health and safety reasons.
Wearing high heels at work is a bad idea, they are uncomfortable and could soon have you distracted at your office desk rubbing your sore heels, not to mention, if there are wires and office equipment around you could end up dripping over someone’s computer desk and causing an accident.
Equally, a pair of flip flops whilst you are sat in your office chair discussing a corporate client is also not acceptable.
Most regular rules for dress in an office would be not to wear revealing clothing as it is considered unprofessional. Many corporate companies do not like outrageous hairstyles, tattoos or visible piercings either although they should not discriminate because of this.
Apart from office furniture accidents with loose clothing, if you are dangling over your office desk in front of your colleague and your chest is appearing above your shirt you will probably find that you are somewhat of a distraction in the office. Whilst you may be popular with your colleagues, you will not be popular with the management.
