Do you feel trapped at work and underappreciated?

In fairness, we all know that every job has its rough times, and every employee has something they don’t like about their job. Unfortunately, hasty individuals make the mistake of over reacting and jumping ship too early, finding themselves in a sea of unemployment with no money.

Be cautious and think carefully, however, if all or most of the following apply maybe it is time to move on.
If you can’t sleep at night and dread going to work to sit at your office desk every day it’s a pretty bad sign. Many employees have odd mornings where they don’t want to go to work, it is natural. However, if the thought of going to work and sitting in your office chair for 8 hours a day makes you feel sick to your stomach, your job probably does not suit you.

Generally, there should be some form of satisfaction from your chosen profession.  This is good for you, mentally, emotionally, and for physical health.  On the other hand, jobs that dissatisfy you will rob you of your peace of mind.
If you have had the same old office desk or old computer desk and rickety old office chair and if you haven’t been promoted nor had a pay rise for a long time then you should carefully think as to why. New office furniture, promotions and pay rises are positive signs of progress and a clear indication that you are a contributing member of the company.
The lack of any indicates that maybe from the boss’ perspective an employee may have stalled in their progress or even worse outlived their usefulness to the company.

A wise employee will discuss their concerns with their manager; it could simply be a matter of raising their concerns to get attention. Many managers can innocently fail to track employees’ progress.

If you do find out that you haven’t been promoted  because your employer  thinks you are incapable of anything more than placing files in a filing cabinet in alphabetical order, this is a pretty  good sign that it ’s time to move.

If your office desk or computer station doubles as a storage area it could be a hint. Some managers have ways of hinting to unwanted employees. Often when they want to get rid of somebody but need a legal opportunity to do so the more cowardly manager may take the more indirect route and make the employees life difficult. This may include swapping your office chair for a hard uncomfortable replacement, trading their computer for a more inferior model, moving their office desk to a narrow space between filing cabinets or stacking piles of paperwork or boxes in their work area.
