Clear your office desk!!!

Take a good look around your desk or indeed whatever office desk substitute you have.  Is it a mess?  I just bet it isn’t as tidy as it could be is it?

If you are anything like me a messy desk is a messy mind and I want to think clearly when I’m working.

So what will it take to sort this mess out?

A better filing system?

A bigger bin?

A bit of time in your day to sort the job that you have been putting off for so long???

I’m as much of a clean person as you are but it can’t be helped can it??  You know that every sticky note, notebook and business related piece of paper has landed on the top of your office desk over the course of the last 6 months and it’s been shoved to the side out of your way and now there is a pile of mess.

OK, here comes the office desk strategy, let me educate you.

Keeping it clean – make sure the whole working space on top of your office desk is clear. A clear work surface is a clear mind.

Keep it handy – anything you use once a day keep in the top draw of your office desk, anything you use once a week keep in a cupboard close by your desk, anything you use once a month does not need to be sat on your office desk for 30 odd days before you pick it up again!  The rule is the less you use a piece of office equipment, the further away it can be from your desk!

Keep it together – for example, everything finance related (calculator, bills, chequebook), keep together in one place.  Are you writing articles (ideas, reference materials, and pens), keep in once place etc

Any time you spend searching for stationary that should be better organised is wasted time and time these days is a valuable commodity.

Put some awareness into one of the most valuable items you have, your office desk, organizing it to accommodate your needs can make your working day much more successful.
