Working mum – those two words immediately state that you have two jobs and one necessity in your life will be the ability to juggle your time between work and home. It is often taken for granted that working mums (or indeed working dads) are easily able to manage their time, but for some people time management does not come naturally. On top of this children are hardly predictable.
The key factor in your life will be to save time where you can. If you work from home, you may need to start getting strict with the time you spend in your home office and the time you spend with your children. Jumping from your office desk to do the odd job or two around the home will start to have a larger impact on your productiveness at work over time.
Tips:
Get strict with yourself. Create a timetable that clearly divides work and home responsibilities and stick to it.
Keep your office desk away from the rest of the household. You need a home office that is your own space, whether you do this by working in a different room or by putting up a partition to divide the space.
Never take work calls when you are in your social time – details will be forgotten and it is not professional. Keep these calls to those times you are sat at your office desk with a pen and notebook.
