More and more people are doing work between attending meetings and travelling on trains to make best use of their working time. Digital technology has meant that in recent years people can use a laptop on the table of a train anywhere rather than needing to be present at an office desk with a huge PC. Are the office days as we know them numbered?
Computer technology has increased both an individual’s productivity and that of the company to such a massive extent during the last 20 years that it has almost become impossible to imagine how to accomplish day to day tasks without having our computer. The very first thing in the morning is to sit in your office chairs and switch your computer on.
Advancements in the last decade has meant that typewriters have changed to personal computers, faxes have been given up in favour of email, dial up internet advanced to wireless broadband and mobile phones improving our daily life to include features such as a phonebook and email. Workplace technology over the years has got faster and smaller and so has the changing office furniture designs that accommodate it.
"Digital technology gives people more control over what they are doing and when they do it," said Nate Elliott, analyst at Jupiter Media "With portable devices and the advent of new technologies, people have a lot more control over their schedules and locations. When you give people this kind of flexibility, it makes their lives better they aren’t just sat at office desks."
