Office desks have by tradition always been large, wooden and normally rectangular. The more modern designs and office furniture materials have produced quite significant advances in the furniture of the office.
Asymmetrical and symmetrical waves have evolved with manufacturers catering for personal computers. Flat screen monitors have allowed lighter and thinner versions of office desks which can now be fixed by a wall mounted pole. Rectangular bench style office desks are also widely available from office furniture manufacturers so shared desk legs can be taken advantage of.
The more modern office desk is more likely not to be made from wood but rather HPC and melamine.
Most office desks these days have spaces for a PC and telephone cable and sometimes make allowances for other peripheral equipment like printers.
There are some office desks that now have built-in plug sockets which also have RJ45 sockets and power. These types of desks have been designed to benefit the mobile home worker who wants to take their laptop in and out of the office and have easy access to work.
Height-adjustable office desks are controlled electrically so that the desk can be adjusted by touching a button, the manual versions can be obtained for a more affordable price too.
