Romance at work

It is inevitable, no matter what the ‘unsaid’ rules and regulations may be in the office, there is normally at least one romance which is occurring in an office. These days many people meet their ‘other halves’ at work. Many young professionals spend the majority of their time at work and often people are compelled to work long hours, this being the case and also because many people do not have the energy to lead an active social life many couples these days do meet at work.

Having a romance at work has its advantages and disadvantages.

A clear advantage is the one that was touched on above. Meeting that special someone in the office will likely mean that you already know them through working with them particularly if they happen to have their office desk close to yours, so a twist on your office chair gives you eye contact. If you already know someone and have similar interests and common ground this makes dating much easier.

Work can suddenly become an exciting place to be and so you view it differently. A quick glance across the filing cabinets and a chat at the photocopier becomes fun.

Car pooling to get to work is a way of making your romance work for you and save you money – if you are both together in the morning it seems to make sense that you only use one car and you can share petrol expenses.

On the negative side, spending too much time with the person you are dating when you work with them too can drive you both bonkers and encroach any desire for space in the relationship.

Dating your subordinate is also likely to lead to comments of favoritism such as why have they got the best office chair or desk?
