Office furniture in the classroom

Even though many offices these days consider the ergonomics of office furniture, there are a few establishments who either don’t have the funding or have not considered ergonomics with their classroom/office furniture.

It is important that at a young age children don’t have furniture that is uncomfortable because it is compromising their natural posture.  The classroom is also the place where children need to be comfortable so they can concentrate on learning without interruption. Furniture in a study area is just as important as office furniture.

Each subject does need a different type of furniture, but studies show that a classroom that has well made furniture which completely fulfils its use without compromising a person’s posture will actually stimulate concentration and therefore the learning process.

Just as with many open plan offices, students thrive better with an open plan classroom, particularly when it comes to the arts. A recent study in the Guardian uncovered that students in an open plan classroom will thrive more, creatively, because they are naturally being given some freedom to think without feeling hemmed in.
