If you want your business to run efficiently and effectively then you should have proper filing and storage systems in place. Running a business demands a lot of time and effort and generates a lot of paper work. When computers were new many people believed that the day would come when businesses would have a paper free office, there would be no need for box files and filing cabinets. Although you may have less hard copy documents than in the past, there will always be stacks of paper around and this has to be kept somewhere if you don’t want to be buried in it.
Most companies find that it is essential to the smooth running of their business to have a place for everything. There are very few offices that function well without office furniture such as filing cabinets and shelving. When documents are kept in good order then they are easier to locate when they are needed. Storage systems should be seen as essential items of office furniture, which means they should be easy to get at. Shelves that are out of most people’s reach are a waste of time in an office, whatever form of storage you use it should be accessible to everyone.
