Losing weight at the office

Once again you are sitting at your office desk at your computer and really need to get a message to one of your colleagues quickly.  All you need to do now is to jump onto email and press send or punch in a couple of digits on your phone.

This is a typical day in the office, static and sat in an office chair for eight hours a day.

If you are one of the many that are starting to gain weight as you appear to work more in the day but do physically less. There is actually no harm in physically going to your colleague’s office desk and delivering the message.  Leaving your office chair to speak to a co-worker during certain times of the day means stretching your legs, changing the view and getting (even if only a small) a little bit of exercise will help you to concentrate better and become more productive when you sit back at your desk.

Recently City News set up an experiment to see if a colleague who more actively got out of their office chair more regularly during the day would lose weight faster than a colleague who used email only and never left their chair.

The result was that the person emailing only took 719 steps during the day. The other one who was given no email access and had to deliver messages to her colleagues in person took 8,054 paces. 2,000 steps roughly burn around one hundred calories, which over seven days will equal a pound in weight loss.
