Most work places seem to have certain individuals who appear to have very little to do in the day whilst others are trying to concentrate at their office desks to ‘power through’ their work load as fast as possible. The people who have little to do tend to invade colleagues workstations with idle chitter chatter.
Here are some suggestions for blocking out noisy co-workers:
Here’s a typical situation that occurs in the workplace; when a co-worker starts to move from one office desk to the next, you often will feel the stress building up in yourself as they work their way closer to your own desk. The person will probably be engaged after some simple opening gambit whilst standing next to your office desk waiting for an opinion or answer. If you decide to offer a polite response, you are going to find yourself engaged in small talk and they will probably continue their conversation regardless of whether you respond or not afterwards.
If they treat everyone in the office in this manner then their issue is behavioural and part of their personality.
The best thing to do is to be honest and from the beginning inform them that you need to continue with your work, maybe apologies and explain that you have to concentrate.
The majority of individuals will understand this completely and leave it there.
Should the situation continue, unfortunately, you will need t be firmer and maybe even forceful asking them to leave your office desk and work space so you may focus on your work.
At the end of the day it is your productivity that will be judged at the company which means ultimately, it is your job that is at stake should you let someone stop you from doing your work done.
