Ergonomic office chairs are designed in such a way that they can be adjusted to fit an individual’s needs. When people are sat at a desk all day it can become very uncomfortable, ergonomic office furniture is designed to reduce discomfort and increase productivity.

Nowadays most office chairs will have adjustable seat height and back rests, along with arm rests and back supports. Office chairs are designed in this way because it helps to reduce the incidence of repetitive strain injury and the back pains that are often associated with sitting for long periods. Current health and safety laws require companies to ensure that office furniture can adjust to the needs of the individual user.

Office chairs should have castors as these make the chair easier to move around and reduce the likelihood that it will topple over. A good office chair should have spring coils in order to retain the support and cushioning that is needed. The back of the chair should be fully adjustable and should curve if it is to provide adequate support. Ergonomic office furniture is expensive and should be considered as a long term investment, when staff are comfortable they are likely to be better tempered and more productive.
